About 2/3 of the colorful petals are done - the rest will be mostly mauves and purples with highlights. I will put some dark green in the upper right background. Opera would be the best color for some of the pinks, but I don't trust it since it is such a fugitive color.
Somehow, I feel very tentative about this painting...What do you think of it so far?

ReplyDeleteI think it's looking great - no need to worry about this one. Do you have Rhodonite Genuine by Daniel Smith (I love it as a nice pink to take the place of Opera or Rose Madder) - it does granulate some and I like that about it, too. You could also use Quin Rose.

Rhonda,one of the pinks I am using is Quin Rose. I really will have to order some DS - the only one I have is Moonglow, and I did use it in the bottom part of that very large petal on the upper right.

Hi Christiane. Your painting is coming along beautifully, as deb said, "one petal at a time". As for your concern about the red, i would suggest WN Permanent Rose. I used to use Rose Madder Genuine and loved it to death so when i found out how fugitive it is i was pretty sad. Quin Red is a fine substitute but does not have the punch Perm. Rose does. Check out the "Handprint guide to watercolor paint". It is an invaluable resource for researching colors and their qualities. Enjoy building your painting. It will be lovely for sure. Cheers!

ReplyDeleteI am out of Perm Rose, but will get some next time I go out for art supplies; right now I am using Quin Rose mostly. I have started to use some Mineral Violet also for pinkish violet.
