I am quite excited about the various showing opportunities for this spring. Now that I am retired, it will be much easier for me to be available for art shows. Here are some of the shows for which I have confirmed my attendance. Whether one sells many paintings or none, shows are fun - since painting is a lonely activity, art shows are a great complement to our artistic balance.

Christiane, congratulations on being invited to participate in all these shows. The only place I've shown online is in my blog. I love to participate in art shows. It gives me a reason to frame and hang pieces together and view them as a body of work. I see things differently.
ReplyDeleteI also enjoy having friends and unknown guests come to enjoy the work. A bonus is selling a piece because I feel especially recognized.
Wishing you many successes with your shows and wish I could be there.
Mary,
ReplyDeleteI always feel very excited about showing: a bit of nervousness at showing "my babies", but also, like you, enthusiasm at seeing friends and sometimes making new ones.
Now, Mary, I am sure you could ride your bicycle all the way up to Ottawa:-)
Best of luck on all the shows! I know you'll have some good sales. I don't show my work much outside the blog but try to do 2 shows a year (usually juried), if I can. I find I'm too lazy to always be getting ready for a show! ha ha
ReplyDeleteRhonda, your juried shows are "big" shows, in terms of prestige! It's quite a feat to get in.
ReplyDeleteThe show starting tomorrow and for which I am presently getting ready is a group show and we are limited to about 4 paintings each...so, not too too much preparation. As for sales, the market is not very good here right now as in most places; I also feel that watercolors under glass don't sell as well as acrylics and oils on gallery-wrapped canvas that don't need any framing. For that reason, I am really looking for alternatives for my watercolors under glass.
You produce so much every week, Rhonda...you are certainly the opposite of lazy!
Good luck with the shows, Christiane. I was on the "art show circuit" for almost 25 years and absolutely loved the travel, the people, and making friends with other artists from all over the US. You'll do very well with your subject matter and skillful paintings...you have what your buyers want! And, they just love to talk to the exhibiting artist. I always loved talking to my customers. Especially loved traveling in NY state, Indiana, and Alabama...ah, fond memories for sure. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteMollie, you are always sooooooooo supportive! Thank you! These shows are not very big, but big enough while I build my inventory in my first year of retirement:-)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! I am positive you will be a hit, wish I could make it up that way. I would love to meet you and see you work in real life :)
ReplyDeleteKrista, I certainly do hope that we will meet one day...We are not really that far away.
