The heat wave that won't go away is making me lazy and I have not painted as much as I should have. nevertheless, I want to show you what I am working on: ANOTHER small strawberry painting. After painting one lonely strawberry, two seriously-talking strawberries, I am now depicting three optimistic strawberries - "Forever Friends". This is only a WIP at this stage since I still have a lot of work to do it...the green leaves and the shadows should improve its impact; however, I have been working at night again, and that's never when I do my best work:-(
I want to start adding a bit more complexity to these berry paintings. Here is a picture of part of a linen lace placemat that I would like to use next time - although I may have photographed the wrong side of it:-). What do you think?
I like the three as well as the duo and singleton! Funny how they all have a personality, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteHow will you use the linen? Will you make it appear as if it is going over the edge of a table?
You have chosen a beautiful piece of lace with such definitive lines and shapes, it will look stunning against the strawberries, but it does mean you will have to create a dark background to fill in the negative spaces, so will change your style of strawberries currently on a clean white paper background. Sounds like a new series to me.
ReplyDeleteLovely lace and look forward to seeing how you use it with the berry paintings. Your berries are luscious enough to eat.
ReplyDeleteReally luscious berries! The lace will add a nice new dimension.
ReplyDeleteYou can never go wrong with lace! I have no Battenburg, but really like the look of it, this will be great! (You really got a lot out of the J.Gnott DVD!)
ReplyDeleteYou are doing a great job with your strawberries and the lace will add another really nice dimension.
ReplyDeleteThank you all,my blogging friends, for your support. As for the lace, I really don't know yet how I will use it - with a dark background? hanging over the edge of the table?
ReplyDeleteI will have to experiment, but I think, as Vicki and Kathy mentioned, that it should add another dimension to my strawberry paintings.
Joan, you may be right in saying that this will be the start of a new series.
Deb, you are right that I got lots out of Jacqueline's DVD... although it did not cover lace:-) I especially like how she does her dark backgrounds. As for the Battenburg lace, it is a linen piece that I borrowed from my mother for the next little while. It is indeed gorgeous!
Christiane, careful not to get strawberry juice on that lovely white lace. Smile! You certainly have got the glistening strawberries and little yellow bits down pat. The lace will really set them off and it would be so much fun to paint. Negative painting is a tad challenging but so exciting. Can't wait to see the next painting. As Joan said, "it could be a new series"!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog again. I really appreciate the company.
Cheers! Ross
I think you should challenge yourself! Go for it!
ReplyDeleteRoss, thank you! It is always a happy moment for me when I see that you have a new painting posted on your blog!
ReplyDeletePam, thank you very much for stopping by. I hope that you will visit again....and yes...I think that I will challenge myself:-)
Hey Christiane...sorry to be so late in jumping in here, but absolutely use the gorgeous lace somewhere with the berries. Lace always adds to anything in a setup...and it's rather adicting when it works as you'll want to use it again and again in other paintings. Go for it!
ReplyDeleteWelcome back from your painting trip, Mollie! I will try painting that lace...if it does not work the first time, maybe it will the second or third time. I like a challenge.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your support and advice - it means a lot to me.
I love the berry's!
ReplyDeleteLinda, thank you so much for stopping by and taking the time to leave such a nice comment.
