Dahlia Completed...and Red Bubble of course:-)

I have finished my dahlia for now. I will probably go back and softened edges etc before matting it. I really like some petals, other petals did not come out quite the way I wanted. However, I am pleased since whenever we paint we learn! What do you think of it?

Dahlia Beauty

As mentioned in a previous post, I would like to try a Fabriano soft pressed paper for a floral. Lately, I am having problems (fuzzy paper)  with the Arches 140 lb CP where I have used masking fluid. Is it the masking or the paper?

I have been very spoiled on Red Bubble lately. Since my last post two days ago, I have had two more features:
1. Garden Kaleidoscope  ( my recent clematis) was featured in Just Watercolors:
2. Forever Friends was featured in the Fine Arts Group:

And now, what to paint next?

Have a great weekend everyone!

  3. Your flower is looking lovely Christiane. You have captured the velvety softness of the petals so well! The lighting is gorgeous too!
I rarely work with 140 lb. paper but use Arches exclusively with little trouble as far as masking goes. A fellow in our class had similar difficulties and the problem was rectified with new/different masking fluid. Hopefully that is the case Christiane. Have a happy Saturday!

  7. Lovely soft petals with the drooping feeling so life like with just that hint of shadow at the bottom section. For floral studies I like the smooth HP Saunders Waterford also 140 lb (300 gsm.) Have you tried it?

  8. Beautifully rich and the colours are so appealing. You almost make me want to paint flowers! :)

Just curious if the Red Bubble venue is creating sales for you. They seem to feature a lot of artists and I wonder if that's their ploy. Feed egos instead of boosting sales? Just curious.

  9. Joan, thank you!I have never tried the HP Saunders Waterford, but I will certainly look for it at my art supplies store this week.

Jeanette, T-shirts are what seem to sell really well on Red Bubble. The site does bring me some traffic and I have sold some greeting cards through them, that's about it. Maybe others have had more sales through that site, I don't know. I really like the community feeling about it - there are some really fine artists on that site and I exchange emails regularly with some of them. The features don't feed my ego...I consider them as nice surprises only.

  11. Hi, Rhonda. I am glad to see that your neck is better and letting you get back to the blogs. I am glad that you like this painting. I think that the Red Bubble people have spring fever and get excited when they see a floral painting:-)

  12. The dahlia is gorgeous! I love the center of it. Your florals are exceptional:)so I don't think it is just the spring fever speaking.
