Latest Abstract: Exuberance

Exuberance 24" x 24" x 1.5"

Painting: Acrylic on Canvas
The title of this vibrant abstract says it all! Exuberance! Exuberance expressed with colour, with movement, with energy and life. I love painting abstracts: painting them gives me a feeling of freedom, of joy and of surprise. I don't get tired of looking at this finished artwork...there is always something new to discover and to respond to.

I hope you will enjoy this painting as much as I do. This painting is on canvas on an extra sturdy double wood stretchers that will prevent any warping. I have painted the edges black; the surface has received a light coat of varnish to protect it from dust; I have wired the back. The painting is ready to hang and enjoy.

I hope 2017 has started very well for you.
Let me know what you think of this painting.

Warm thoughts in this freezing Ottawa weather: a Valentine

Warm thoughts in this freezing Ottawa weather: a Valentine

Close to You

Little Gems Collection-For Valentine's Day or any other day:-)

I had fun creating this 6" x 6" x.1.6" whimsical, highly textured and affordable acrylic painting. It is full of reflecting light and colors and has metallic gold highlights. It is painted on a cradled birch panel. The intertwined hearts were basically carved into acrylic gel layers. It has layers and layers of color, of acrylic medium and is finished to a hard, shiny, resin-like surface.
It has white painted sides and has a wire for hanging. It can be displayed either on the wall or on a shelf.

My Show at Il Primo Ristorante in Ottawa

My Show at IL PRIMO restaurant in Ottawa

I am very pleased to have a show running from January. 10th to the end of February at the great Italian restaurant Il Primo, at 371 Preston Street
Ottawa, Ontario, 613.234.6858

I took a few photos with my cell phone to give you a glimpse of the show that includes more than a dozen of my paintings. I will try to remember to bring my good camera next time I go there.
I hope that you will drop in. You will love the Il Primo food. It is so delicious! As an extra bonus, there is free customer parking at the back of the restaurant.

Thank you to Malcolm Cowell who is the gallery curator at the restaurant.

Polar Sentinel 12" x 12" x 1"

Latest ...and last for a while...Pewter and Acrylic Painting in Polar Series: Polar Sentinel

Another artwork in my "Polar Series" with hand embossed pewter. My last one for a while.
A few years ago, I had the opportunity to visit Nunavut in the Canadian Arctic and fell in love with Inuit culture and art.

I have been developing a series of artwork to celebrate the North using pewter that I emboss free hand and acrylic gels and emulsions to translate the ice and snow.

This painting "Polar Sentinel" is of an Inukshuk on a specially prepared cradled panel; the pewter is top quality and contains no lead. The word "Inukshuk" means "in the likeness of a human" in the Inuit language. They are monuments made of unworked stones that are used by the Inuit for communication and survival.

A beautiful statement piece! It is wired and ready to hang. The edges are painted white to continue the idea of ice and snow landscape on the sides of the painting. The artwork has been varnished to protect the pewter and the acrylic for years and years.
Please note the flash reflection on the main photo...the pewter is hard to photograph.

I can produce similar pieces with kayaks, inukshuks, polar bears etc...in much larger sizes such as 24" x 24" or larger.  Please contact me if interested.
