Dahlia WIP part 2 and more Red Bubble news

I worked a bit more on my Dahlia. Here is part 2 of this WIP:
The heart of the flower will have some reds and rusty-gold. The other petals should be mostly white, but how can one resist adding color:-)

I was hoping to make a lot more progress on this painting yesterday and today, but somehow time just flies and there is always something to do: today, it was grocery shopping, getting new passport pictures, cooking, cleaning. How did I manage before I retired in December??? How do you balance your painting and your other responsibilities?

You may be getting tired of hearing about Red Bubble, but I really want to post this little bit of news: my  Cherries and Lace below won the Still Life Challenge in the Fine Arts group - it had to be a still life with some red.  Please have a look at the other entries - some are simply fabulous, so I was quite surprised to read that my painting had placed first. No big prize, just "fame and glory" they said:-)

Have a nice evening!

  5. Your flower is looking beautiful! I love the way the petals are looking. Congratulations too on your first place winner! Your art is so very worthy of such an award. My show went well Christiane and we had a lot of people out to Opening night. 18 paintings have sold so far. The show runs till the 26th so i am remaining hopeful for a few more sales. Now i am having a hard time getting back to the studio but have so many things to try. Smile!
Can;t wait to see your finished painting Christiane.

  8. Vicki, thank you. I have decided to get up earlier from now on and spend 2.5 hours painting every morning, rain or shine. Let's see how long I can keep to that schedule:-)

Katherine, thank you for your vote of confidence:-)

Nora, at least I am not the only one who has a hard time finding sufficient time to paint in spite of retirement:-)

Ross, 18 paintings! But that is wonderful!!! What a success! I am sure that you will sell even a few more between now and the end of the show. I will try to finish the dahlia painting tomorrow if I can manage to stick to my new schedule:-)

Leslie, you are too kind!!!Your latest iris is absolutely stunning!

Krista, thank you. I find the dark background so much easier than an out-of-focus lighter background although I prefer the latter.

  9. Kathy, I actually sketched out that rose for the challenge. That is as far as I have gotten at the moment. Maybe I will mask it out tonight in order to put in the dark background. I am not crazy about the effect of masking on my paper sometimes...for instance, in this painting, I feel that the paper for my outside petals looks less smooth than the paper for the petals that had not been covered by the masking:-(
