Clematis Update- WIP Part 3

I have worked some more on my Clematis. This picture was taken inside, but have adjusted the picture at least on my monitor.
About 2/3 of the colorful petals are done - the rest will be mostly mauves and purples with highlights. I will put some dark green in the upper right background. Opera would be the best color for some of the pinks, but I don't trust it since it is such a fugitive color.

Somehow, I feel very tentative about this painting...What do you think of it so far?

Undoubtedly it will be a masterpiece.

  2. Looks good! I love things like this - just one petal at a time - over and over - and then it's done!

  3. I think it's looking great - no need to worry about this one. Do you have Rhodonite Genuine by Daniel Smith (I love it as a nice pink to take the place of Opera or Rose Madder) - it does granulate some and I like that about it, too. You could also use Quin Rose.

  4. Pat,I would like it to turn out ok...but a masterpiece?...:-)

Deb, this is usually the type of painting I like...I have artist agoraphobia when faced with large unbroken spaces:-)

Rhonda, one of the pinks I am using is Quin Rose. I really will have to order some DS - the only one I have is Moonglow, and I did use it in the bottom part of that very large petal on the upper right.

I thank you all for the great support. So, onward it is today - slowly, surely, patiently:-) Have a great day in your studios.

  5. Hi Christiane. Your painting is coming along beautifully, as deb said, "one petal at a time". As for your concern about the red, i would suggest WN Permanent Rose. I used to use Rose Madder Genuine and loved it to death so when i found out how fugitive it is i was pretty sad. Quin Red is a fine substitute but does not have the punch Perm. Rose does. Check out the "Handprint guide to watercolor paint". It is an invaluable resource for researching colors and their qualities. Enjoy building your painting. It will be lovely for sure. Cheers!

  6. Oops! I meant to say Qin Rose not Quin Red in my comment above. Sorry about that...

  7. Ross, one petal at a time, yes....but I have just ruined one!!!!!! Ah, well... there are a dozen more:-)
I am out of Perm Rose, but will get some next time I go out for art supplies; right now I am using Quin Rose mostly. I have started to use some Mineral Violet also for pinkish violet.

I see that you have finished another painting for your show. I admire your productivity. Thank you for taking the time in your busy schedule to visit me. It's greatly appreciated.

  8. It is looking very good, Christiane. I like how you take you time and really "see" what you are painting. Hope that statement made sense to you. :)

  10. Ann, I am a slow painter...I look more than I paint:-)

Gretchen, once I start adding the outer purple leaves, I will have a better idea how it is going to turn out. Some of the petals are giving me a hard time though:-)

Thank you both so much for your encouragement. Your support means a lot to me!
