Update: Maine, Red Bubble and Artalee

We returned home last night from a most relaxing week of vacation in Ogunquit, Maine. The weather did not cooperate very much: we had only one sunny day and came back in a downpour. Nevertheless, I had a great time: walking on the the fog, eating sea food and taking pictures. I find that the sound of the ocean is music for the soul and it simply washes away all tension. The only downside of our week is that somehow I did not paint very much and my laptop was too slow for any blogging.

I was pleased to find out that my watercolor "Southern Belle" had placed 3rd in a challenge on Red Bubble. This painting is already sold and I recently posted a new version of it which I probably prefer, although the background is less dramatic.
In "Southern Belle II",  I really like the plum highlights in the dark background and the more detailed painting of the petals and the stem.  This painting is currently hanging in a group show at the Ottawa Little Theatre.

My slow laptop did not allow me during the week to post any new features on ARTALEE. This morning, I was so happy to return to my regular computer! I have just posted a feature of a watermedia artist we all know and love, Sandy Maudlin.  I hope that I have done justice to Sandy's versatility and talent.

  1. Congratulations Christiane on having your painting come in 3rd in the challenge. It sounds like a fun thing to do, enter these that is. Good for you for doing that! I have yet to enter anything but must give it a tray some day here. Thanks too for stopping by my blog. It has been a while since i was there myself! But today i am painting and there is coffee on and good music playing. Life cannot get much better!
    Have a great day!

  2. Ross, it is always such a pleasure to visit your blog! I simply love your whimsical village scenes.
Life does sound good for you! Enjoy!

  3. Christiane, back from my latest trip and checking in. Congratulations on your placing well in the challenge. I like both the challenge painting and your newer version for different reasons. The background is more dramatic in the first, and there is beauty in the subtlety and halo effect in the second. Lovely!

  4. Thank you, Mary and Krista! I enjoy traveling, but it is always so nice to return home, is it not?

I will be going away again next weekend, this time to NYC to visit my daughter who is spending a year there for her work; then the following week, I will going to Quebec city for my work. All my trips are taking place at about the same time...after this, I won't leave Ottawa for months:-)

  5. Glad you did enjoy your trip. What a thrill to be chosen for your special blog. Thank you so much for the honor and for your excellent write up.
    Happy painting this week!

  6. Sandy, I am so pleased that you liked the post!
