Venetian Shutters - First pour

The only work I had time to do this week on my new painting is the initial pouring. The colors did not quite turn out the way I wanted to. You will notice that I will be painting a much sunnier version of this scene and that the colors will be more pastels. However, I don't want it to be too similar to my "Laundry Day in Venice" that started with the same colors.  I hope to put the focus on the reflected shadows of the shutters and the plants.
I hope to have the chance to spend a few hours working on this painting during the weekend.

  1. hello christiane will enjoy watching this develop ...the shutters and doors of venice are absolutely beautiful

  2. Really have been enjoying your Venice work and how the poured background gives such a good base to your developing paintings. Like your plan for developing the interesting shadow shapes on this one.

  3. You got the hard part over - getting that first pour on :) Looking yummy so far!

  4. Loving the way this is looking so far. Your first pour looks good, nice colors.

  5. christiane.. you havea fantastic start,, woo hoo!! will check back and see where you go from here.. have fun!!

  6. Jane, you are so lucky to live in that beautiful area. I will be going back to Venice next month...I am sure that I have not yet photographed all its fascinating doors and shutters :-)

Joan,I do find that the poured backgrounds usually provide a good foundation for the rest of the painting. They can be unpredictable, but I am learning to live with that uncertainty.

Rhonda, yes, a big sigh of relief once that is done and the paper is no longer all white and intimidating.

Nora, thank you. I wanted to bring in some warmer orangey color on the lower right hand side. I may still try to do that.

This is Saturday and really the only day of the week where I can usually find several hours to paint. I should have some progress pictures to post tomorrow. Thank you all for your support and I wish you a great day.

  7. Cindi, it is so nice to hear from you. You always offer such great encouragement. I hope that you will also find time to paint this weekend.
    Take care.
