Palette Knife Painting - Nature's Glow

Nature's Glow- Acrylic 18" x 24"
I could not resist painting a fall landscape and decided that palette knife would be a great technique to use to translate the density and richness of autumn foliage.

This painting is 18" x 24" on canvas and is mostly from my imagination and memory although I have been collecting fall photos for quite a while.

Please let me know what you think.

Enjoy this glorious season!

  1. The palette knife would be a perfect choice, and the mix of colors that you chose is breathtaking! I was looking at a huge tree across the street today, with the evening sun hitting the golden leaves and making the whole thing glow... you've captured that exact feeling! Well done!

    1. Katherine, I had lots of fun painting this landscape. Knife painting is so fast...it is a nice change of pace. I am taking another palette knife painting workshop this weekend, so there probably be more of this type of painting in my future.
Thank you so much for your support. It is very appreciated.

  2. I love the thick, lush paint and the glowing complementary colors. You did a really great job. I just experimented once in my recent workshop with the pallette knife and found it wonderfully tactile.

    1. Mary, after finishing a complex watercolor for a commission, it was a joy to play with so much texture. I have recently taken two palette knife workshops with a very talented local artist and gallery owner, Kevin Dodds, and plan to work more on developing my dexterity with those painting knives.
Thank you so much for stopping by!

  3. Christiane, it turned out beautifully! I agree with both Mary and Katherines comments and while I have never attemtped to paint with a palette knife you make it sound like great fun!

  4. Thank you so much, Laura. Painting with a palette IS great fun and it is so easy to create texture with it. I am working on a larger painting with the painting knife and, although I am not sure what the results will be like, I am certainly enjoying the process.

  5. Christiane - hopped over here from Deb Ward's blog. Enjoyed my visit very much. This painting of the trees with the palette knife is gorgeous. Read through several of your previous posts and have to say your portrait of the basset hound just tugged at my heart. Just so sweet. Hope you have a great day. So glad I found your blog.
