Love That Lace ; new sketch etc.

I have finished my Love that Lace watercolor and I am rather pleased with it.
 For purchase information, click here.

It is approximately 7.5" X10.5 and I am matting it to fit a 12" X15" frame.

It has such a cheerful look - it reminds me of sunny Sunday afternoons! There is almost a 3-D effect caused by the warm oak wood peeking through the gorgeous lace.

I am looking for a better title. Any suggestions?

What to paint next? I really like one of my pictures of the Fish Market in Venice showing pigeons having a pool party in a bucket under one of those old Venetian fountains. There is a nice play of light and shadows and the rusty fountain is begging to be painted with lots of textures. Here is a small sketch I have just finished - it may be a study for a larger painting to be painted evenutally. This is my first time drawing/painting birds - I may be doing my usual trick of creating new species:-)
Yesterday, I added a new feature on ARTALEE: this time, of my fellow Canadian artist, Jeanette Jobson.  I focused on her very unique gyotaku project. Do visit her most interesting blog.

Have a great Sunday evening!

  5. Pat and Deb, thank you! I will try to paint the Venetian fountain quickly, more loosely than what I have been painting...I always worry before I put in the first few strokes of color on a painting...do you feel the same way?

  6. Ooohhh, the wonderful shift from warm to cool in that glorious shadow under the cherries is awesome. Love it.

  7. You absolutely nailed every element in the cherry tomatoes and lace, Christiane. I love the glow you got with the tomatoes, and the lace and table underneath really read beautifully.

Can't wait to see your courtyard scene. Just think of those pigeons as fat doves with color and fatter tails.

  9. Sandy, thank you for stopping by. To tell you the truth, I did not even think in terms of warm or cool when I painted this shadow:-)

Mollie, you are too kind as usual!I am not sure if thinking of doves will help...I have never painted doves either:-)

Thank you so much, Fabio. I truly appreciate your support.

  11. Thank you, Mary. I like the title you suggest...even though I meant these little guys to be tomatoes:-) I suppose I don't have to tell:-)

  12. How embarrassing! Of course, they are tomatoes and it's very evident. Obviously I was so excited about the lace contrasted against the red fruit that I didn't look at details.

Perhaps a title playing of a variety of the tomato would be fun.

  16. Thank you very much, Jane. It is always so nice to hear from you. I will try to enjoy my last week of work...but I am indeed looking forward to becoming a full-time artist: it is a little bit scary at the same time. I feel that my work will automatically have to improve suddenly for me to call myself that:-)
