Peony 2 - finished

I declare this second peony finished and will sign it tonight. I did increase the contrast here and there near the whites to enhance the whites and make the picture pop a bit more. Unfortunately,  this painting did not turn out as nice as it was in my mind. Perhaps I rushed too much after the half-way point.
I think that in the next one I will use fewer colors; I will try simply different values of blue for the petals and a hint of yellow for the center. It should create a more cohesive look.

I have gone through all my pictures of peonies, but can't find one with nicer buds that in the ref picture I used here. I may just add one of these buds to my next peony painting:-)

I hope that you are all having a great week.

  1. Oh I like this! Looks like you were able to restore some of the whites very well. It does pop! Looking forward to your next one!

  3. Thank you, Deb and Vicki, for your continued support!

It's unfortunate that the weather forecast here is for rain for the next 4 days - I need to go out with my camera and take some interesting pictures of peonies. They are starting to bloom here.

  4. Really good finish, Christiane. I thought I had posted on your last photo but it isn't there. Must have been a senior moment.

  6. Anne, thank you! It's the computer system's fault, not a senior moment!!!

Deb, I will be out with my camera tomorrow morning, rain or shine! I really would like to paint a few more.

  7. You sure have found a wonderful technique here and I love this particular bloom. Watching your DVD studies have been inspirational.

  8. Thank you, Joan. Jacqueline's DVD has certainly opened a lot of new possibilities for me. I am full of ideas of paintings that I want to try...the main problem, as for many of us, is the lack of time:-)

  9. Christiane...painting turned out beautifully. Peonies are so lovely with all their petals and turns and I love all your values on this one. Wish we could grow them to get your wonderful reference photos.

  10. Mollie, later on today, I will post a few reference photos I took yesterday at the beautiful Ottawa Experimental Farm...very quickly since it was raining and my husband was waiting patiently(?) in the car:-). Feel free to use them if you find some that you like.
