More on my acrylic journey

I have to admit it: I am totally hooked on acrylics! I am also hooked on negative painting!

Here are three paintings I have done in the past two weeks:

"The Dancers Below the Surface"
This 12" x 16" painting on canvas went through many transformations. I started with reds and oranges and ended up with these muted blues.
"Shimmer on the Pond"

As you can see, I have also developed an obsession with leaves and water:-) This 9"x 12" acrylic painting is on a cradled gessobord made by the Ampersand company.

"The Last Waltz"

This 3rd acrylic painting is 8" x 10" and is on Claybord by Ampersand. This glass-like surface does not photograph well; in real life, it has a wonderful glossy surface. It requires getting used to, but it is wonderfully different.

I love to experiment and the last few weeks I have felt so energized by my new journey with acrylic paints. I hope that you will like these paintings.

I hope that you are all enjoying these summer days.

    1. Thank you, Theresa. I really appreciate the feedback. These paintings are done from imagination and without any preliminary drawing - I am usually so structured:-)

  2. These look like fun - it's good to experiment, especially when they turn out well! I like the Ampersand - no frame required. Keep up the good work!

    1. I do like to experiment a bit too much:-) The smaller painting is on a flat Ampersand panel and not cradled like the other. I know that my framer can build a cradle for it - since the flat panel is cheaper than the cradled panel, I can experiment more freely and then spend the extra only for the "keepers":-).

  3. Your acrylic paintings are lovely...I particularly like your brush stroking - very impressionistic, I think. I still struggle with acrylics and admire your ability to control them. I am addicted to negative painting, however and your technique is wonderful.

    1. Barb, your work is always so flawless and inspiring, that I have a hard time imagining you struggling with any medium! I certainly understand the negative painting addiction, though: I literally dream about it:-)
Thank you very much for your encouragement, Barb. It means a lot to me.

  6. Beautiful, fluid and almost dreamy. I recently got together some acrylics and these have inspired me to have a go, if I can put the watercolours away!! Really love these paintings. Well done!!

    1. Kev, I am pleased that you like these paintings. Your watercolours are beautiful, so please don't put them away. However, do give painting with acrylic a try. It's a lot more forgiving that watercolour and it's a lot of fun. I will keep an eye on your blog to see if you decide to try it.
